Will I have to reapply to NKU for admission after completing the NKU Academy?
You will not need to reapply, we will take care of that for you. We will also work with you during the Academy to register for fall classes.
Am I eligible for federal financial aid or Pell Grants to cover the cost of the NKU Academy?
Since the NKU Academy is not part of a degree program, federal financial aid is not available. We do, however, have limited private funds available to relieve the financial burden on scholars with proven financial need. The NKU Academy fee is the same for Kentucky residents as it is for non-residents.
Is it required for me to live on campus?
It is not required for scholars who live within a reasonable commuting distance to live on campus, however, it is recommended. There is a reduction in the room cost during the Academy because we believe that living on campus is an important part of the NKU Academy experience.
May I work during the NKU Academy?
The NKU Academy is an intensive, five week program. In addition to classes and peer tutoring from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday, you will need to plan study time in the evening for homework (generally one to two hours for every hour in class). These requirements leave little time for employment.
May I be excused from my classes to participate in sports or campus organizations?
You must make a commitment to attend the full five weeks of the Academy, therefore, you will not be excused for practices, games, vacations, etc. Successful completion of the NKU Academy requires that you attend all classes, everyday. Absence may result in removal from the Academy. Please refer to the NKU Academy Handbook for attendance requirements.
